my/our/their family

A family history project dedicated to the Willimer family in Royston and around the world, inspired by the desire to find out more about my Dad’s mysterious parentage.

Mum and Dad’s Wedding – 1941

12th October, 1941 – The beginning of almost 50 years of marriage. Mum and Dad were married at St John’s Parish Church in Royston. I believe this picture was taken at Grandad’s house in Stakepiece Road.

Back Row: Alfred Linton King (Mum’s father), Alan Sharman (son of Dad’s Aunt Hilda), Laurence Willimer (Dad’s Uncle and best man), Granny Seabrook (Mum’s maternal grandmother), Christine Ward (Mum’s cousin and great friend in later life), Uncle Pete (Mum’s brother), Emma Gimson (Mum’s Aunt Em), Beatrice Ward (Mum’s Aunt Beat).

Front Row: Hilda Sharman (Dad’s Aunt), Mum’s stepmother, Granny Willimer, Dad and Mum, Edna Chapman (Dad’s cousin), Joan Perkins (?), and Rose Willimer (Dad’s mother and my maternal grandmother – and the central figure in the mystery of my ancestry).

The child in front is Rosalind Sharman (Hilda’s daughter).

One response to “Mum and Dad’s Wedding – 1941”

  1. Joan Perkins was the daughter of Alfred Linton King’s second wife, Gladys.
She later married & became Mrs Overton.
